| In 2006, the Kittredge Business Center at Holyoke Community College opened with its new 2,500 square-foot, fourth floor green roof.
According to executive director of the Center, Jeff Hayden, "a portion of the fourth-floor roof is a green roof. It essentially takes care of itself in that there's very limited maintenance that needs to be done on it. That was part of the design - the fact that it would operate on its own. Essentially, it's the first public building in the Commonwealth to have a green roof, and it's part of our effort to look at these issues" (https://www.usgbc.org/News/USGBCInTheNewsDetails.aspx?ID=3559).
